Scatman Crothers

Scatman Crothers, born Benjamin Sherman Crothers on May 23, 1910, was an American jazz and rhythm and blues singer, actor, and musician. He is best known for his unique blend of scat singing and traditional jazz. Crothers gained prominence in the 1940s and 1950s, becoming a significant figure in the jazz scene. His notable works include the hit song "Scat Song" released in 1957, which showcased his distinctive scat singing style and became a defining moment in his career. Crothers also recorded several albums, including "Scatman Crothers Sings" and "The Scatman," which further solidified his reputation as a talented performer. Beyond music, Crothers made a substantial impact as an actor, appearing in films such as "The Shining" (1980) as Dick Hallorann and in various television shows, most notably "Hong Kong Phooey."
